April Update

We have some exciting events to share with you this month, but first we’d like to thank Monica and Todd from Carolina Bee Company for speaking at our club last Monday. They had many wonderful experiences to share and tips for beekeepers looking to market their products. The Carolina Bee Company have an amazing array of locally made products available at their online store that you can find here. They have high quality soaps and lip balms, which they have perfected over the years and so generously gave out at the meeting.

We’ll be speaking at the Earth Day Festival at Durham Central Park in the Eco-Lounge 4:30-5pm. on Sunday April 21, 2013.

On Saturday April 27th we’ll have an educational table with an observation hive at the Durham Farmer’s market. If you have ever wondered about what goes on inside a beehive, this is your chance. We could use two more volunteers for this date from the club.

  1. I have learned that notinhg works 100% of the time in beekeeping. Yesterday I checked in on that hive I added the brood and eggs to just to make sure that the new eggs and larvae were in-fact workers and not drones. The new brood was worker, which means there was in-fact a laying queen in there at one time, but something is up. There was a capped queen cell in there as well. I quit poking around in there once I saw it. Don’t know if they lost their queen again or if they are looking to swarm. They only have one deep hive body filled so I am scratching my head on this one.

  2. Thank you for the kind words. We enjoyed coming and talking to your group. Thank you for the warm welcome! Looking forward to seeing you all again some day!
